New Free Block Pattern! "June's Pinwheel"
Carolina Moore hosts a monthly blog hop of free quilt block patterns called #QuiltBlockMania. The theme for December is Barn Quilts. When I saw this theme coming up, I knew I wanted in!
The Barn Quilt theme immediately made me think of a block design I painted on a barn at my parent's house 12 years ago. So I wrote a pattern to bring the painting to fabric.
The block design became part of a larger collaboration with Tara Reed, a Riley Blake fabric designer, who reached out about making a project with her new collection: "Winter Barn Quilts" -- obviously a perfect match for this project! And, eventually the idea grew into an entire quilt pattern with 7 sizes and 2 color ways! I call it June's Pinwheel, after my grandmother, who the original barn painting was also for.
Today, you can get the FREE 12" June's Pinwheel Block Pattern as part of #QuiltBlockMania.
Here it is in a bright spring palette!

The best part about laying this block out as a larger quilt is the surprise secondary block! The corners of each block come together to create a star design without any extra effort! I was so pleasantly surprised when I noticed this during design, and honestly, it's the reason I wrote the full quilt pattern!
Please check out this post about the full quilt pattern where I'm sharing lots of June's Pinwheel tips. And see this post for all the quilt tester versions of June's Pinwheel!
