I had the WILDEST experience! A Netflix set decorator called me about quilts for the next season of...SWEET MAGNOLIAS! I love Sweet Magnolias!
Ok, so, wait, wait, you probably want to know how in the world this came about first, right?
I first got an email from my quilt guild. They explained that the set of Sweet Magnolias is filming season 5 nearby. There's a new character coming, and she's a quilter!!! So, they need a few quilts to use on set and they're looking for some to rent.
I contacted the set decorator and sent her some photos of a variety of my quilts. Not knowing exactly what style she was looking for, I tried to cover all my bases. I would be thrilled if they used just one!
She liked them enough from the photos that she asked for a virtual showing! So I arranged my collection as you see above and had a quick chat with her. She told me a little bit about the character (you'll have to watch season 5 to find out!) and then I showed her my work.
I had 6 versions of Letters on the ladder and bed, including one finished top waiting to be quilted. She said an unfinished quilt could even be useful, potentially, if there was a need to show the character in progress on a project. That hadn't crossed my mind, but I was glad I included it, even though it wasn't finished!
I also showed June's Pinwheel (on the headboard), Pockets Full of Blessings (folded), Blue Ridge Mountains, and Hearts Together (pillows).
I also got to show her a couple of my grandmother's quilts. She passed in 2022, but oh how I wish I could tell her that her quilts were auditioned for a Netflix show!
We will wait and see what decisions they make! I'll keep you updated. In the meantime, if you'd like to make any of the quilts I auditioned, you can find the patterns in my Shop and The Stash.
Maybe your quilts will find their way onto TV one day! Who knows?!
