Letters Quilt | Bonus Projects for Extra Blocks

Individually quilted and bound letters blocks

The ombré color way of my Letters Quilt pattern makes an extra 8 envelope blocks due to the 4-at-a-time piecing method and the number of blocks needed in each color.

There are lots of fun ways to use these extra blocks! Below are some of my ideas. I'd love to see what you come up with, too! Post your bonus projects to Instagram with the #SWMLetters so I can see your makes.

You may need additional background and/or binding fabric depending on your bonus projects.

Pillows

Eight extra blocks could make two pillows with four envelopes each.

Go square by arranging them around a center of background fabric.

Go with more of a lumbar support pillow by stitching them together in a row.

Wall Hangings

Get creative with arranging your blocks as wall hangings or mini quilts. The sky--and your fabric stash--is the limit!

Individual Letters

Quilt and bind individual blocks to make "letters" to trade. You can use a Sharpie Pen or Sakura Pigma Micron pen to "address" them, or write a little note.

When the Letters pattern launched, I hosted a Letters Swap. I paired up participants, and we all made individually quilted and bound blocks and swapped them with each other through the mail! It was so much fun! You can see a few of them here.

If you use Christmas fabrics, an individual letter could make a super cute "Letter to Santa." Or, go with pinks and reds and make a "Love Letter" for Valentine's Day!

Your Own Ideas

I'd love to see what else you come up with to use up your extra blocks! Remember to post photos on Instagram with the #SWMLetters so I can check it out!
