45+ Easy Red, White, and Blue Food Ideas for Memorial Day & July 4th: Inspired by the Thread, White, and Boom! Table Runner Pattern

If you’ve been following along with my Thread, White, and Boom! table runner pattern, you already know I’m a little (okay, a lot) obsessed with a good red, white, and blue moment. This is one of my favorite patriotic quilt patterns to sew!

While I was sewing my runner up and imagining using it for Memorial Day and the 4th of July, I kept thinking: what fun food could I serve with this? That question sent me down the happiest rabbit hole of festive treats, fruit trays, and easy snack ideas—so I started collecting them all in one place.

If you haven't grabbed the pattern yet, [Get the Thread, White, and Boom! Table Runner Pattern Here](pattern link)! This post is my save-ready “grab-and-go” list of red, white, and blue food ideas to pair with a patriotic table—especially if you’ve got a handmade runner front and center!

I’ll show you my top 3 pins in each category on this page, but I’m pulling inspiration from my Pinterest board with 200+ red, white, and blue food ideas, so if you want to see even more, check here:

Before We Get to the Recipes…

…let’s have a quick chat about dye and essential tools and supplies that work with lots of these ideas!

A Quick Note for Our Dye-Free Friends

So many “patriotic” recipes lean on food coloring—especially for bright reds and blues. If you’re serving folks who avoid artificial dyes (or you just prefer a more natural route for you and your family), you’ve still got plenty of options.

Easy Dye-Free Swaps

  • Use real fruit for color: strawberries/raspberries (red) + blueberries/blackberries (blue).

  • Lean on white ingredients that don’t need dye: whipped cream, vanilla frosting, mini marshmallows (some actually have blue dye though…check your label), yogurt covered pretzels or raisins, white chocolate.

  • Choose recipes that get color from jam, freeze-dried fruit powder, or cocoa instead of food coloring.

Want a Natural Food Coloring?

If you do want a coloring option, look for a natural food dye set (typically made from plant-based colors).

Pair Your Patriotic Spread with the Thread, White, and Boom! Table Runner Pattern

My Thread, White, and Boom! table runner pattern was the spark that started this whole red/white/blue food hunt, and it’s designed to be a fun, festive make for patriotic holidays. Because it uses fusible appliqué, it’s a quick project that even a confident beginner can tackle. This pattern also includes instructions for the optional USA 250th appliqué to celebrate the upcoming semiquincentennial.

🌟 Table Tip: If you’re serving on a buffet or outdoor table, put the runner down first, then build your food display in “zones” (paper supplies on one end, desserts in the center, fruit and a drink pitcher on the other). It looks styled—even if you pulled it together fast.
