FAQ
My kid is older than PreK/started school years ago. Can I still use this?
YES! You can! My daughter Pippa started PreK last year, so we are just sticking a plain photo I took of her first day in the PK pocket. Just use what you've got or skip those pockets altogether. You can even choose to start labeling your pockets with your kid's next grade if you just want to start where you are. This isn't about perfection or completion, it's about collecting memories and creating a keepsake!
I've never done appliqué before. Is it hard?
Trust me, you can do this! If you are a mama who wants to collect memories, you got this! We will use fusible, raw edge appliqué. No needle turning or complicated techniques. Honestly, fusible appliqué kinda feels like...cheating...it's just so easy! It's basically cut, peel and stick, cut, iron.
It says “intermediate”…I'm worried it's too hard.
I hear you. I was hesitant to classify it this way because I really believe anyone who can sew can make this. Ultimately, I decided to classify it as intermediate because it can be a bit fiddly to work with large pieces, vinyl, and multiple tools and materials in one project. But if you want those photos and a precious keepsake, you're not going to let that get in your way! So don't be scared of the word “intermediate.” 😘
I don't have school aged kids, but I am a teacher! Can I use this?
YES! I will be writing up a little hack for how to make this work for your classroom with interchangable names. And don't worry, you won't be cutting out every name on your roll by hand. More to come on this!
I have more than one child. Do I have to make multiples to use this for each of them?
That's up to you. You can make one for each kid, or hack it with a detachable label for each kid's name. I'll write up a tutorial on this soon! If you wanna try this but wanna get started, just skip fusing the name on for now.
My kid can't write yet. What do I do with the Dream Cards?
Just write what they tell you for now. If they can at least write their name, help them write it on the back. If they can draw a little scribble or enjoy putting stickers on, let them participate in any way they can until they're ready to write on their own.
Do I need a printer?
It certainly helps, but there are work arounds. You can have your Dream Cards printed at a store like Staples or an online printer. You can trace your appliqué templates over your computer screen if you can't print them. Just make sure they're displaying on your screen at actual size (100%).
What about printing photos?
And as far as photos go, I recommend the Kodak Dock Era plus for 4" x 6" photos with a standard size Pockets Full of Dreams, and the Instax Mini Link 3 for 2.1" x 3.4" photos with a mini size. Everything you need is linked within the pattern! Of course, you can have them printed at Walgreens or online, but I loved having a reason to get a photo printer for home! My 5 year old didn't even realize it was possible to print photos from my phone!
Where do I find all the supplies?
I got you covered! All the supplies are linked on the pattern resources page which you can access from inside the PDF pattern after purchase. Easy peasy.
